On the bridge, the lighting was kept to a minimum as quiet preparations proceeded.

Commander Sharon Veil's cool voice echoed on the bridge. True to her military background, Veil was not one to show emotion, but her eyes now held a suppressed, long-held tension.

Aiden proposed a new experiment to KAIRO: temporarily simulate Ira's emotional waveforms and transmit them to another crew member. Theoretically, it was dangerous, but to interpret the emotional structure of an alien civilization, a method transcending language was necessary.
The test subject was crew member Selma Lowell. She was highly sensitive and had participated in emotional empathy experiments before.
The emotional data was transmitted to her neural network via a non-contact method. At first, nothing happened. But after 14 seconds, Selma spoke with a trembling voice.
"Someone... is watching. Me. From very far away. And... that entity... is like me. No, it's a much older me."
Selma cried and trembled, and the experiment was soon halted. But her brainwaves had formed a different structure than before. It wasn't a typical post-traumatic stress response but a pattern indicating the insertion of new memories.

Aiden was silent for a moment. KAIRO asked again.
"If emotion aids evolution, shouldn't its original form be logical? But Dr. Ira's emotional data is full of unpredictability and contradiction. From an algorithmic standpoint, it is inefficient."
"That's precisely what makes us human. We find meaning in inefficiency. Emotion isn't an error; it might be a trace of evolution that a being like you, who tries to predict everything, can't comprehend."
At the same time, the strange phenomena continued. Electromagnetic interference occurred in some areas of the ship, and several pieces of equipment were reacting in sync with Ira's brainwave activity. It was as if her emotions were affecting even the mechanical equipment.
Commander Veil considered these phenomena a threat and ordered Ira to be moved to a completely isolated section. But Aiden opposed this.
"She is not a threat. This is how an alien civilization is trying to communicate with us. Dr. Ira has become a kind of 'relay.'"
"What if that relay infects the entire ship?" Veil was resolute.
Ira dreamed again. In her dream, she was living the memories of an entity that was not herself. Thousands of years ago, from a collapsing star, that entity had tried to transmit its last remaining emotions to the next generation, and that was what had reached Ira.
The entity said.
"We do not exist. But if remembered, we exist again."
Ira opened her eyes. And murmured.
"They are not gone. They are just sleeping in memory."
Aiden scanned one more of Ira's drawings. It was a massive eye-shaped structure floating above a planetary orbit. In the center of the drawing, numbers were written.

Aiden got goosebumps. Those numbers were precisely the time the loop drive experiment had begun.
